MARTIN FIGLINSKI Oil Paintings

I am a Florida native. I grew up in the Panhandle and now live in Apollo Beach, FL. I've been painting for more than forty years, and much of that time has been spent studying the landscape and the changing effects of light.

Today, my work is focused primarily on Florida's coastal landscapes. The beaches, open water, wide skies, and the atmosphere that brings them all together. I'm especially interested in those moments when the light changes everything. The warmth of a late afternoon, the quiet of an early morning, or the last glow of sunlight as it settles over the water.

I want my paintings to do more than show what a place looks like. I want them to bring back something familiar. The memory of a walk along the beach, the sound of the surf, the warmth of the sun, or the feeling of standing at the water's edge with nowhere in particular to be.

I work exclusively in oils, using color, light, and subtle changes in tone to establish a sense of atmosphere and distance. Over the years, I've learned that what I leave out can be just as important as what I put in. I try not to overwork a painting or explain every detail. I would rather leave something for the viewer to discover, allowing their own memories and experiences to become part of the painting.

For me, painting is a lifelong pursuit. I'm still studying, still experimenting, and still learning something with every painting. And after more than forty years, I find the Florida coast as interesting and inspiring as ever.
